The African armyworm is causing significant economic damage on cereal fields and the golden apple snail on rice fields in several African countries. The prevailing weather – as a result of climate change – conditions are highly favorable for African armyworn and it is again causing damage after more than 20 years.. The FAO has allocated $500,000 to train agriculture extension officers and provide them with the necessary equipment to combat the pest.
